Meet Mel Jr.
Melvin Lee Campbell Jr. was born and raised in the City of Chester, Pennsylvania. The son of Melvin Sr. and Carol Campbell, he grew up in a modest three-bedroom, one-bathroom row home alongside his three brothers. His mother, Carol, was a dedicated 47-year employee of Crozer Hospital who passed away from pancreatic cancer before she could retire. His father, Melvin Sr., is a proud U.S. Army veteran and retired Crozer employee.
From an early age, Melvin learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and service. At just eight years old, he started a lawn mowing business to earn a few extra dollars in his neighborhood, and by twelve, he was volunteering every weekend at his church’s bingo nights. As well as coach youth basketball.
Melvin attended Wetherill Public School and Saint Katharine Drexel School in Chester, before earning a scholarship from the St. James Alumni Association to attend Cardinal O’Hara High School (Springfield, Pa). He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) and later a Master’s Degree in Higher Educational Leadership from Widener University (Chester, PA).
Professionally, Melvin has built a diverse and accomplished career across education, logistics, and management. His experience includes roles at QVC (West Chester, PA); Prince Telecom (New Castle, DE); FMC (Philadelphia, PA); Chester Community Charter School (Chester, PA); UPS (Philadelphia, PA); Drexel University (Philadelphia, PA); and the University of Pennsylvania’s (Philadelphia, PA).
Melvin’s drive for innovation and community betterment extends beyond his career. He is the author of the children’s book You Can Be Who You Want To Be, which inspires young readers to pursue their dreams without limits. He also holds a pending U.S. patent for an invention designed to improve hygiene accessibility a reflection of his commitment to practical solutions that improve everyday life.
An active member of his community, Melvin volunteered as a youth basketball coach, mentoring young athletes and teaching the values of teamwork, discipline, and leadership. He is also a proud member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and a strong supporter of responsible gun ownership and the Second Amendment.
Rooted in the values instilled by his family and community, Melvin Lee Campbell Jr. is dedicated to creating opportunities for working families, improving education, expanding healthcare access, and ensuring every Pennsylvanian has the tools to succeed. His journey from the streets of Chester to the halls of higher education and beyond embodies the belief that with hard work, faith, and community, anything is possible.
